Prima Grade Sesame Seeds - Hulled, 99.98%

Prima Grade Hulled Sesame Seeds 99.98%

Sesame seeds (Sesamum indicum) are tiny edible seeds of a plant of the Sesamum genus, native to both India and Africa. They are considered the oldest oilseed crop in the world and have been cultivated for more than 3,500 years.

These seeds have a nutty flavor and they can be purchased either shelled or unshelled. This product is sold with the hull removed. They have a milder flavor and are more nutty than bitter when compared with the unhulled seeds.

Our Prima Grade Hulled Seeds are mechanically hulled and is the preferred choice in bakery applications as the seeds do not brown in a bakery oven.

Olamnuts customers purchasing our Prima Grade Hulled Sesame seeds will get a product that is of the highest quality. The 99.98% purity means the product is free of stones or other grains that may impact the quality of the product

Processing

The processing operations for hulled sesame seeds include receipt of natural sesame seeds, cleaning, peeling, drying, sorting, bagging, stitching and dispatch.

There are sieves, magnets, de-stoners, validated driers (CCP) and metal detectors (CCP), which remove foreign materials from the seeds during processing thereby making the product safe for consumption.

They are commonly added to salads, as a topping for bread and grain products, crackers, sushi, cakes, soups, and even used for breading fish and meat. Additionally, sesame oil, derived from the seeds, is a rich source of nutrients with both laxative and emollient properties.

The seeds themselves are very small, only 3-4mm long and 2mm wide, yet 3.85 million metric tons are produced every year. The seeds are initially found in a black hull inside a pod. Once they are removed, they must be stripped of their shells. They come in a wide variety of colors, depending on the variety or strain of the sesame plant.

Storage

Our Sesame products are stored in our warehouses between 36 and 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
